Flow improvers work by modifying the properties of crude oil, typically by reducing intermolecular forces between wax molecules, which helps to prevent formation of large wax crystals and keeps crude oil flowing smoothly. In addition to reducing risk of flow disruptions, flow improvers can also help reduce energy consumption and improve the overall efficiency of oil and gas production processes.
Viscosity index improvers are commonly used in multigrade engine oils, gear oils, automatic transmission fluids, power-steering fluids, greases and some hydraulic fluids. They allow the fluid to flow more freely at lower temperature. It reduce the change in viscosity and modify the viscosity fluid/ lubricants over entire range of unstable temperature. Thickeners and viscosity index improvers are added to reduce lubricant viscosity changes at high and low temperature.

Diesel PPD is improve flow of diesel fuel in cold weather. In some cases, it may improve operability by modifying the size and structure of the wax crystals form or precipitate out of the fuel at low temperatures, permitting their passage through the fuel filter. Poor cold flow characteristics may lead to partial or full solidification of fuel that resulted in blockage of fuel filters and fuel lines, the problem of starting, and engine damage due to inadequate lubrication between mating surfaces.
Pour point depressants are polymers that allow oil and lubricants to flow at very low cold temperatures without heavy wax formation and enable the oil to remain pumpable /flowable. It used to lower the pour point temperature of the lubricating oil beyond the starting temperature of the engine. It recommended for use in wide variety of Engine oil, Gear oil, Hydraulic Fluids. It is also effective in controlling low viscosity under shear condition. They are used as wax inhibitors and crystal growth modifiers for heavy and light crude.
Drag Reducing Agent reduces the turbulence in the pipeline of the crude oil mass, as applying a thin chemical coating to the pipe’s inner surface to reduce friction between flowing liquid and pipe wall. This decreases pressure in the pipeline resulting in a higher flow stream at the same pressure.
